DERMAPLANING

Dermaplaning procedures provide optimal results for those with mild to moderate skin texture, fine lines, dull or dry skin, oily skin, superficial skin pigmentation, and those interested in pairing dermaplaning with additional exfoliation modalities.

There are a few contraindications that could prevent treatment, however most people are great candidates for dermaplaning procedures!

When performed by a skilled provider using the best technique and blade type, dermaplaning procedures are a very safe and effective way to exfoliate the superficial layers of skin and remove excess vellus hair - leaving behind fresh, glowing skin.

If you are looking to level up your skin game, dermaplaning procedures also provide the perfect prep for a clinical peel or other exfoliating treatment, and can be safely incorporated as a Spa Tapas add-on or combined with many modalities and treatment types to create beautiful, customized results.

Yes - there are some skin conditions that are contraindicated for dermaplaning procedures. We will ask you about any possible contraindications during your Skin Fit Consultation and prior to each dermaplaning service you receive to ensure you are a current candidate for receiving a dermaplaning procedure.

Contraindications:

• Active cold sores or facial rash
• Active viral or bacterial infection
• Acne grades 3 & 4
• Active rosacea flare-ups
• Open, active, or abnormal skin lesions
• Full facial waxing* (must wait at least 2 weeks) *this does not include brows, which may be avoided or waxed during treatment if needed
• Use of prescription keratolytics/vitamin A topicals (discontinue use 5 days prior)
• Use of non-prescription keratolytics/vitamin A topicals (discontinue use 3 days prior)
• Botox or dermal fillers (must wait 2 weeks)
• Use of tanning beds or frequent sun exposure (must wait 2 weeks)
• Any infectious disease
• Use of Accutane (must be off for a minimum of 3 months)
• Current use of hydrocortisone on the treated area
• Sunburned, wind-burned, or compromised skin (must wait 2 weeks)
• Visible redness, irritation, or inflammation
• Current use of blood thinners or anticoagulants
• Bleeding disorder
• Wrinkled skin
• Excessive terminal hair in the treatment area (waxing is a better option for areas with coarse hair growth; your treatment can be customized to accommodate waxing as needed)

We recommend incorporating dermaplaning procedures into your regular facial regimen every 4-6 weeks.

Dermaplaning procedures are very versatile. Our dermaplaning procedures provide instant gratification and noticeable improvements due to the removal of superficial skin layers, superficial pigmentation, and vellus hair.

Vellus hair is temporarily removed during a dermaplaning procedure and will grow back blunt-ended. However hair will not re-grow any thicker, darker, or denser than its natural state.

Dermaplaning procedures are beautiful maintenance skin refresher treatments with shorter-term results, unless incorporated into a corrective treatment regimen and paired with additional exfoliation or equipment modalities such as clinical peels or microneedling procedures.

When combined with a clinical peel as in our Dermaplane Advanced service, dermaplaning can be used to target conditions such as aging skin, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, dull/dry skin, oily skin, and breakout-prone skin for quicker, more enhanced results. Deeper peel penetration can be expected with this combination service, as well as mild to moderate peeling of post-treatment skin.

Before each dermaplaning procedure, you will receive an email with pre- and post-treatment reminders to note and follow before and after receiving treatment. We will also include a list of contraindications that may be applicable to you. Please review these items to ensure you are free from any specific conditions that would prevent you from receiving a dermaplaning procedure. We will review these at the time of your appointment. Abiding by these guidelines will help ensure a safe, beautiful, and effective treatment.

PRE-TREATMENT REMINDERS

3-5 Days Prior:

• Stop the use of all active topicals including Vitamin A, retinol, or other keratolytic topicals; AHA/BHA-based topicals; benzoyl peroxide-based topicals, etc.
• Drink 64-oz of water in the days leading up to your appointment to ensure your skin is well hydrated

2 Weeks Prior:

• Avoid any prolonged sun exposure, outdoors or in a tanning bed
• Avoid receiving botox or dermal fillers
• Avoid facial waxing (brow waxing can be incorporated as a Spa Tapas add-on service at the time of your appointment, if desired)

POST-TREATMENT REMINDERS:

• Do not resume the use of active topicals for 3-5 days post-treatment (skin should feel completely normal before resuming)
• Drink at least 64 oz. of water daily for 3-5 days post-treatment to allow the skin to flush
• Schedule your next dermaplaning service 4-6 weeks from the day of your appointment
• Lengthier post-treatment care can be expected when dermaplaning is combined with a clinical peel, and a post-treatment kit and instructions will be given at the time of your appointment.
